Great product! September 19, 2008 LOVE the Britax car seats! After trying other brands, I'll never buy anything other than a Britax again!
GREAT carseat!!!!! August 22, 2008 So happy I got these seats, as I bought 2! Very sturdy when installed, and it isn't hard to instal or remove! We have a Scion XB (2008 model, not smaller 2006 model) and a honda civic sedan. I initally wanted the Boulevard, but I wanted to buy the same car seat for both cars, and I knew they were very tall! This seat is perfect for both! It isn't too tall in the civic, but provides great protection for our daughter. One thing I wish it had is the "Click and Save" like the new Boulevard! I often worry about her being in there tight enough, but I guess they will make it at a later date!
Easily broken headrest August 11, 2008 I would not buy this again for the following reasons.
1 - the Side Impact Protection is a loose piece of foam covered only by the headrest fabric (separate from the cover on the rest of the seat). It can be bumped out of position quite easily. Imagine putting a squirmy baby into a rear-facing carseat in a compact car and you can see that it is easy for this piece to get caught on your elbow or grabbed by the child. In the first 3 days of use, I cracked the foam in 2 places. There is no reinforcement to prevent this from happening.
2 - the concept of adjusting the strap height with a simple knob is a good one, but watch out if you have an older child who likes turning knobs and wheels.... I'm afraid my toddler will one day hurt his little brother by cranking down on that knob too far.
Overall, it is a very safe car seat, comfortable for the child, and a breeze to install. But that piece of foam could use some reinforcement. I can't imagine that I'm the only one with this problem.
Really love this carseat August 4, 2008 We got this carseat for my son after he outgrew his infant carrier at around 8 months. I really like this carseat. After wrestling with the Graco Snugride to get straps adjusted or to do the LATCH system, I really appreciate this seat. It's very easy to adjust strap height by turning a knob. The seat is able to sit up straight or recline a little (we have it reclining). The LATCH system for Britax is great. It's much more like a regular seatbelt fastener in that you push a little orange button to release the catch. None of that fishing around, torturing your fingers trying to get the fastener on and off the anchor. Also, I feel that this seat is pretty easy to use with non-LATCH cars. This model came out shortly before we started looking for a new carseat and I'm glad it did. I have a thin, tallish toddler and he fits very well into this. I like the narrower profile so that it doesn't take up so much room in the car, and it's easier to carry around. We got it on the airplane, forward-facing, very easily. I am especially happy to have the side impact protection and hope that we never need to find out how invaluable it is. It's easy to get my son in and out of this seat and he always seems comfortable in it. The only complaint that I can think of is that it seems very impractical to me that Britax would make a carseat cover that's supposed to be handwashed (we have the Huntington pattern). Like several other reviewers, my son vomited in the car and his seat at one point and I was irritated to have to hand wash and line dry it. It sounds like other people have washed it in the machine and found it to hold up. I've washed a few of the little parts in the machine on a gentle cycle and they were fine, but I'm leary of messing it up and having to fork over $70 for a new cover. That's the only reason I didn't give the seat 5 stars. All in all I'm really happy with this purchase and even as a frugal person, I feel that this was the best choice I could have made.
Expensive, but worth it July 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was hesitant to spend so much money on a car seat when there are so many cheaper options out there. I did a lot of research before deciding to purchase this particular brand and model. My reasons for buying were the ratings (both safety and user ratings), and the design of the car seat.
I chose this particular model because the Diplomat is specifically designed to fit in cars that have smaller back seats without compromising the safety of your child. I have a 2006 Subaru Impreza and this seat is a perfect fit - we had trouble with some other seats where we really had to move the front seat forward and incline it forward in order to make room for the car seat, which makes it impractial to use the front passenger seat for another person.
Anywhere you look the ratings for the Britax seats are always 4-5 stars, for both the safety and the usage. I found this seat incredibly easy to install and had it in the car in a matter of minutes. I prefer to use the seat belt system rather than the latch, and most other car seats when you want to use the seat belt system you also have to use a locking clip to hold the belt in place which I find very difficult to use correctly. The Diplomat has 2 locking clips built into the car seat on each side and they are very easy to use.
Two other features that I love on this car seat are the extended head-rest pads on the side and the knobs on the sides that let you adjust the straps. The head-rest pads extend much further out on the side than any other car seat I've seen providing extra safety and more support for when your little one falls asleep and their head tilts to the side. The knobs that let you adjust the straps are conveniently located on the side of the car seat and not the back, so you can easily adjust the straps without having to take the car seat out of the car.
We purchased a Britax Roundabout first and while it's an excellent car seat and very similar I like the Diplomat better. It has those few 'extras' like the removable pads, extended head-rest, and strap-adjusting knobs that make it worth-while.
