Cute Cup that Leaks like Crazy September 10, 2008 When I first saw this cup, I thought--Wow! What a great idea! But while I love the lack of a valve to have to clean, I've learned that this cup creates big messes. No matter how I've tried adjusting the fit of the nipple and lid/ring, it leaks (and I sadly own 3, all of which leak the same way--from the edge of the nipple where it sits under the ring/lid seal. I think that if the nipple edge had just been made wider, this problem wouldn't exist, but I don't know for sure).
I wish I could say I love this cup as much as I'd hoped to, but I can't. And since I can't get my money back, I'm hoping you'll save yours and find a different one that won't leave your baby and the area around her soaking wet. 2 stars is the best I can give this--it is cute, easy for babies to hold, and soft on their gums, but leak-proof it is not. :-(
It's okay... August 30, 2008 Pros: BPA free, soft silicone spout that my baby enjoys chewing on, easier to get the liquid through the valve (have you ever tried to suck on a Playtex or Gerber sippy cup??? I'm amazed that the kids can get anything out at all).
Cons: Vari-flo probably means that if you're not careful, the darn thing will either leak a slow constant trickle or a torrential flood in your diaper bag. Haven't been able to find replacement spouts anywhere yet either.
This is not the cup that I would carelessly toss into my bag and go with. But I prefer this one as my kids love to chew on things (I've seen some disturbing teething marks on my other sippy cup spouts-- where is all that gnawed off plastic going?) and the BPA claim at least tells me Nuby is consciously making the effort. Plus the silicone top probably feels better on gums.
