Editorial Review Designed for comfortable, discreet, and efficient pumping wherever busy mothers go, the ISIS iQ Duo Twin Electronic Breast Pump features an electronic memory that learns and then automates your own personal pumping rhythm to achieve natural breastfeeding results. The iQ Duo stimulates let-down by means of a massage cushion that flexes while pumping, mimicking the suckling action of baby. During milk expression, a one-button variable control adjusts speed and suction to replicate baby's deeper, more comfortable sucking rhythm, as the electronic memory learns and continues your unique pumping rhythm. The ISIS iQ Duo arrives in a stylish, insulated tote bag designed for easy organization. Lower the front panel, and the motor can remain inside the bag for even quieter and more discreet pumping. The set allows single or timesaving simultaneous pumping, and also includes a manual pump for those times when an outlet isn't readily available. Express directly into the reusable AVENT storage containers (in two four-ounce and two nine-ounce sizes), then simply replace the sealing discs with the included AVENT nipples and you're ready to feed baby. Other features include two travel covers to keep AVENT nipples sterile when on-the-go, two Thinsulate carriers to keep your breast milk cool, eight flexible, freezable gel packs, two drawstring bags to conceal containers in the refrigerator, disposable breast pads to protect clothing, and a Quick Start DVD to guide new users. As part of the AVENT Natural Feeding System, the set can be used with any AVENT bottle or cup. --Heather Lyndon

Great electronic pump October 11, 2008 I ordered this pump about a month ago upon my return to work (part time). My daughter was born a month premature, so we had initially rented a high-grade pump (which I think spoiled us for most pumps!). When I returned to work, we decided it was better to purchase our own pump than continue renting. I initially borrowed my sisters Ameda Purely Yours (I had my own accessories, from the hospital), but the engine had begun to die out, as the pump had already gone through a couple years of use. I did some fairly extensive research online and reading of reviews before I settled on this one, and am glad I did!
I ruled out the Medela fairly early on because the idea of mold growing in the tubing (even if the tubing was easily replaced) just sounded like a lot of hassle. So that narrowed my choice down to the Avent Duo or the Ameda PY. I called our local lactation clinic and asked about these two pumps; the lactation consultant I spoke with said that the Avent Duo had much more advanced technology and that the pump life was longer than with the Ameda.
Pros (so far): I have really enjoyed how much control the Avent pump gives you. With my first child I had just used the Avent Isis manual pump--this gives you the same kind of control as a manual but without constantly having to work the pump. I like that you can easily alter the settings: quick, to bring the milk in; much slower, to express the initial flow after let-down; and then quicker again when the flow slows down. I am typically able to pump 4-5 oz in about 8-10 minutes; with the Ameda I was using it would take me 20 minutes to do as much (granted, the engine was slowing down). Of course, neither pump compares to the one we rented when my daughter was in the NICU, but then, that grade pump costs several thousand dollars!
Some of the reviews have complained about the time to set up, and it's true that the Ameda weighs a little less and has fewer parts to deal with; however, I've found that if I put the horns together before I leave for work, it doesn't really take that much more time to set up the pump. And the weight hasn't been much of an issue.
Overall, I've found this pump to be fairly easy to use and worth the money I spent.
Easily spills milk :( October 10, 2008 I can't say I'm too impressed with this breast pump. I haven't had to take it to my work to use it yet, but I suspect it's bulk and inherent issues will create nothing but problems. Despite it's good looks and efficient suction, I cannot recommend it.
My biggest issue is how easily the collection containers can tip and make a mess. It's really ridiculous considering how much this pump costs--there's no excuse for it. It comes with bases upon which you can place the containers when you have to put them down, but they don't do a good job of keeping the containers upright. The pump's tubing is so stiff, it contributes to the tipping problem. If and when you do tip the containers it can spill milk from three different places! Realize that you don't have to tip the containers too much for this to happen. If the suction movement pulls too much milk into the petals, milk will leak over the edges. If you accidently tip the container too much, it'll leak from the diaphragm where milk collects initially or from where the cup screws into the horn! Aaargh! I've tried to be really deliberate with how I handle the parts when I'm pumping, but I've spilled more milk and made a bigger mess than I ever did with the hospital rental.
I bought this pump because I liked that it's a "closed system." I guess Medela must be a popular brand for a reason, but I cannot speak as to why since I haven't used it. However, I strongly suspect that I should have just gone along with the crowd and bought a different pump. It's too late for me, don't let it be too late for you!
Absolutely the best pump EVER! October 3, 2008 This is possibly the best invention/product known to working mothers! I am in love with the Avent pump. I had to return to work earlier than expected and was faced with having to buy a new pump. I pump 2x at work and this pump works amazingly! I've been an Avent botttle user since my 1st child. The Avent pump pours directly into Avent bottles! This product came with 2 4oz. and 2 9oz. bottles. There is absolutely no transfer, just directly to the bottle and then into the insulate storage bags. With my previous pump, I was transfering the milk into the container, then into a bag which went into a freezer. The bag was then thawed and transfered to a bottle. Pain in the butt! However, this pump enables you to pump directly to the bottle, keep it in cold storage at work, and then just put in refrigerator when I get home for the next morning. It's great!
The suction works great and is not painful at all. The button is right on the handle so I don't have to turn the entire machine off to cut the suction. Also, it comes in a great looking briefcase style bag. I would recommend this pump to anyone...
Very pleased with this purchase - and the price!! September 29, 2008 I bought this product from Amazon - for more than $100 less than in the store. It is a great pump which I take to work with me everyday. It is a little on the bulky side (when all the parts are in the carry case). But it is nice and easy to put together and the settings are too easy to use. I am extremely happy with my purchase!!
Noisy pump motor and clumsy to use September 19, 2008 Used for barely a month and found that pump motor became very noisy after 2 weeks of constant use. Not sure if it's because the motor is meant to be used in the USA, and I'm based in Singapore. I find the system rather clumsy. The wires joining the motor to the pump are entangled and this causes the bottles (when fitted into the pump) to topple easily. So far, I've only used it at home, so not sure how it'll work out once I have to use it at work. Suction is also not as good as manual pump (I had an Avent manual pump before I bought this). Other than that, it's pretty decent as my milk supply did increase steadily and it takes me half the time to express my milk, as compared to when I was using a manual pump.
Can consider buying if you're using Avent products currently, e.g. steriliser, bottles, etc. and if you're living in USA. I'm rather disappointed that I can't do a 1-to-1 exchange from the Singapore office. If there's any malfunction with the product, I have to send it back to the USA as the warranty is not an international one. Need to weigh the pros and cons between getting it cheap from Amazon.com and after sales service.
