Not a good investment September 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this chair after much consideration and research. Even though many - or it seemed like most - of the reviews were very favorable, I found the chair flawed for the following reasons:
1. Security Risk: The straps do not tighten enough to keep a restless child secure in the seat. My daughter got out of it easily simply by standing up. Had we taken our eyes off her for even a second, she might have fallen onto the floor.
2. Mess Factor: There is a huge gap - four inches or so - between the seat and the table, allowing food to fall onto the floor very easily.
This seat is however the only one on the market that fits tables with a wide skirt - which is partly why I bought it. So if you must have one that fits a table with a wide skirt, this might be your only choice. You would have to watch your child very, very carefully.
I am returning the seat.
Misleading picture but satisfactory product September 1, 2008 The picture on the box/website makes this portable chair look like it folds up like an umbrella. It does not. The underside braces fold sideways and inwards, so the chair is flat horizontally, however there is nothing keeping them folded. I keep this chair at our friends' house, so we don't have to port it, and it stores perfectly well. However, I would not recommend this chair to use in and out of a restaurant because it does not fold small nor stay folded. On the plus side, it is very strong. On our friend's stable table, the chair does not move, and I have every confidence of our toddler moving around in it.
hook on chair August 29, 2008 The chair itself works great. My only complaint there is that sometimes I cant get the adjustable knob underneath to unlatch, so that gets frustrating. The other thing I don't like about it is the canvas-y material that the seat is made of is hard to wipe clean. Food gets all smashed into the little graininess of the fabric and you wipe and wipe and it looks like you got it clean, but when it dries later you can still see stuff crusted into the fabric. Luckily, once through the washer gets it really clean, but for day-to-day cleaning its kind of a pain.
Good little chair July 28, 2008 versatile and handy. A bit cumbersome for one person to open and hook, but once you get the hang of it, it's definately worth it. It works nicely around large lips on the edge of tables. GREAT VALUE!
Consider a booster seat instead July 13, 2008 We have an informal butcher block dining table and we bought this for our then 6 month old to be a part of the family table. The pros of this seat are that it is compact and portable. But the cons were that my daughter easily slipped out of the belt and climbed out, and continues to do so. The belt comes up between the legs and from behind her back (under her arms) and no matter how tight we made it, she tucked her legs in under her and slowly stood up, slipping straight up out of the belt. Also, if you are looking for something mainly to use at home, it would make more sense to get one of the solid boosters with a back, harness, and optional tray. That is what we have for our 2 year old and what we are getting for our youngest now too. It shows food stains and is a pain to dissamble and wash on a biweekly basis. Also, the arms that extend on the table make it so that there is not a large area to place a plate and a cup. Finally, there is about a one-inch gap between the front of the bucket seat and the table, and it is too tempting for the baby to push food down that "slot" - so big messes created below the seat. This is not the right choice for home use and is not as good as the fold and go seats for restaurant use. Good luck in your search!
