Amazon.com Review
So many baby backpacks are either too robust and gear-heavy for everyday urban use, or too flimsy for a jaunt out in the country. Not so the Snugli Cross Terrain Carrier. Surprisingly comfortable and lightweight (under 8 pounds empty), this carrier is an excellent baby backpack for parents on the go. In appearance and design, it's suitable for the great rugged outdoors, be it wilderness or city. Parents can even forego bulky strollers when traveling (or heading out to the grocery store). Chock-full of storage compartments, the Cross Terrain carries far more than just baby!

Pockets, Pockets, and More Pockets!
We may have lost track, but at last count there were 13 storage compartments in this hefty backpack (not counting baby's seat!), including removable hip pouch, mesh cup holder, hip pockets, side pockets, cell phone pocket, large storage area, rear storage compartment, canopy storage, removable insulated bottle pack, zippered pocket, and key ring hook (technically not a compartment, but useful storage anyway!). Ample space for diapers, wipes, snacks, bottles, change of clothes, wallet, cell phone, keys, and more. The hip and side pockets are a small but especially handy feature. So often you need someplace to shove a receipt or glove or map for a moment until you can get yourself organized better. When hauling baby around on your back, you don't want to be removing the pack all the time for every little thing.

Ride in Comfort
Baby will love seeing the world from a grownup's perspective, riding high and close to Mom or Dad. The soft, padded leg openings, backrest, and harness straps will keep baby comfy, while the five-point harness system keeps her secure. A seat side adjustment grows with your child; tighten the strap to move smaller babies closer to your back or loosen strap to give larger babies a little more space. A removable mesh and canvas canopy offers some protection from the elements (although it will not prevent sunburn). Caution: once baby is installed in the carrier, she is within hair-pulling and happy-screeching-in-ear range!

Walk in Comfort
The beauty of the Cross Terrain Child Carrier is that it's very cozy for baby and easy on the parental carrier's back, shoulders, and hips. Load-balancing straps distribute weight evenly, while padded contoured straps are gentle on the shoulders and hips. All straps are adjustable, including hip belt, sternum straps, and shoulder straps, for a custom fit every time for every carrier. If Mom, at 5 foot 2, passes the carrier over to 6-foot-tall Dad, all he needs to do is adjust a few straps for a perfect fit. Keep in mind that putting on the baby backpack is ideally a two-person job.

Safety First
Please read all instructions in the included manual before gallivanting off cross-country! Baby's safety (and your joints) depends on it! A few additional notes: reflective trim makes urban evening walks a little bit safer. The kickstand keeps the carrier upright when loading and unloading baby—but don't leave her there unattended! And never place the carrier on elevated surfaces with baby inside. The carrier is designed for children who can sit upright unassisted (from about 6 months on), and who are between 16 and 40 pounds, although most children will probably have moved beyond the baby backpack stage well before the 40-pound mark! --Emilie Coulter

Editorial Review
The motto for this brand is "Never miss a moment!" That should tell you just how versatile it could be. The Cross Terrain carrier is for active parents, who want to bring along Baby, but only if both can be comfortable. It comes with a height-adjustable seat that "grows" with your child; padded, adjustable, load-bearing harnesses and restraints; and sturdy back support. A mesh panel, strategically placed, keeps grownups cool and comfortable, and another mesh canopy protects Baby from the sun. Multiple storage areas (side pockets, cup holder, panels, large item compartment, bottle pack for food and baby supplies) make it easy to store everything you need. To top it off, a sturdy kickstand holds up you supply-filled monster once it's off your back, and baby is in your lap. Its lightweight design easily folds down into a compact, easy-to-carry unit no more than 8.5 pounds empty. --Diane Beall

1 out of 5 stars Faulty waistband snapped while I was wearing the carrier   October 6, 2008
The waistband on this carrier snapped while I was wearing my child in the backpack. The two sewn sections simply came apart. The backpack has only been used a few times. My child is well under the weight limit for this carrier, and the waistband was not being stretched beyond its size (my husband and I are both thin). This backpack is not well made and the faulty waistband is a safety hazard. I have reported the problem to the manufacturer and the seller and I will update my review after I receive responses.

4 out of 5 stars Please read this - important info on this carrier!!!!   August 27, 2008
I bought this carrier (after lots of searching and comparing) for the good price and looks. When I got it, I was so excited to try it. I wore it once (no problems, AWESOME!!) and my husband twice (he's 6'2" and says it doesn't hurt his bad back), on the third time he put it on, he reached around to put the waist belt on and the big adjustable plastic piece snapped right off (btw, if you check the customers pics on here you'll see someone else had the EXACT problem!). He barely tugged on it! I immediatly wrote evenflo. They responded quickly and offered to fully refund my money because they couldn't send a replacement part since the brittle cheap plastic piece is SEWN into the belt. I was quite disappointed since this on flaw ruins the whole thing. I asked if I could just mail the plastic piece and get a refund, but the only way you can get a refund is to CUT OFF the shoulder straps AND waist belt and mail it to them - rendering the whole pack unusable. I don't think it's worth trashing the whole thing. I'm keeping it and found a much better material (flexible but sturdy, cloth covered foam) to replace the mistake Evenflo made. I will post pics of it on here soon. Hope that helps you with your decision, it really is a great pack and hopefully Evenflo will take my advice on that one issue.

2 out of 5 stars Belt Support Broken While Using   June 18, 2008
I love this back pack design, but the belt support is clearly not as durable as it should be. I have owned it for a few months, but only used it about 10 times around the house. My son is about 20 lbs and there has been no extreme use or wear and tear. There is a plastic flat piece that is the back middle of the belt support. It has holes stamped in it to allow the belt support to be raised or lowered. As I was walking with my son, I pulled to tighten the belt and the whole plastic part split in half. This left the entire belt support split in half (see customer photo). I will be contacting Evenflo for a replacement and will update this review based on their support.

5 out of 5 stars An enjoyable carrier for myself and my son   April 11, 2008
I used this for recent hiking trips and a ten day vacation, I received many great comments about it while on vacation. The best thing was that my son (5 months) loved it! He often fell asleep in it.

4 out of 5 stars Great baby backpack   March 8, 2008
As a die-hard backpacker, I bought this pack for my daughter before she was even born. However, we couldn't use it until she was about 6 months old because the child should be able to hold her head up properly. So I've been using this backpack for 12 months now, and I'm very happy with it.

I'm not a big fan of strollers since they don't do well on dirt trails or cobblestones, but with this pack I can go anywhere comfortably. The construction is sturdy enough, but the one weakness is that the zippers are too flimsy. Otherwise, it's very comfortable for both parties and has plenty of storage space. Although I don't recommend loading it up with heavy objects, the pack appropriately distributes the weight to the hips so it doesn't hurt the back and shoulders. (Be sure to tighten the straps around your waist for it to work properly!)

My daughter, now 18 months, requires at least 10-15 minutes of wrangling to get her into a stroller, but she squeals with delight every time I pull out the backpack and tries to climbs in herself. She loves to ride up high where she can see everything. She even falls asleep on long walks, although the pack is not intended for the child to sleep. There is nowhere for her head to go when she dozes off. However awkward it looks to us though, she doesn't seem to mind sleeping on my back. All in all, a great pack and a good value for the money.
