Product Description The iBert safe-T-seat was designed with quality and safety first. The safe-T-seat places the child up front, safely between the parent's protective arms. This evenly distributes weight over the bike giving a stable, safe ride. Kids enjoy the close interaction and the unobstructed view of the fun ahead. Mounted conveniently on the handlebar stem; the high, forward position allows you to pedal in comfort without banging your knees on the seat.
Amazon.com Product Description Created by parents who were disappointed with the family bicycling options available, the iBert Safe-T Front Mounted Child Bicycle seat was made to offer families the best biking experience possible in safety and comfort. This front mounted seat offers both parent and child excellent range of vision, with the opportunity to interact as they bike together. Noted for its ease of use, the seat takes just a few minutes to install and remove, and it is equally easy and safe to load and unload the child from the seat. Providing plenty of clearance for the knees so that the adult can bike with ease, the seat is positioned so that it is easy to maintain the center of gravity. This adaptable seat fits any adult bike with a minimum of 3/4 inches of clearance on the handlebar stem. The iBert Safe-T seat was developed after its creators became frustrated with the available bike seat options for children. They found that bike trailers kept their kids uncomfortably far away from them, got too hot in the sun, and only provided a limited view out to the children. The rear-mounted seats presented similar problems. The kids had a limited view and it was difficult to interact with them. Additionally, the balance of the bike was off and it was not easy to load and unload the kids. Other front mounted seats were complicated to hook onto the bike and difficult to remove. These seats also did not allow knee clearance for biking, and as a result were not comfortable. The iBert Safe-T seat offers a variety of safety and comfort advantages compared to other child bike seat options. The iBert Safe-T seat allows you to maintain control of the bike when loading and unloading your child. To load and unload the child, you simply straddle the bike and lift the child into or out of the seat. When using the iBert seat you can always see what your child is doing and you can make sure that your child is safe and comfortable at all times. The center of gravity in the iBert seat is closer to the center of the bike making it easier to control the bike as you ride. The seat sits higher on the bike and is smooth on the bottom so that even tall riders rarely brush the bottom of the seat with their knees and if they do they just glide along the smooth edges on the bottom. The iBert Safe-T seat is easy to install. The patented stinger assembly attaches to any bike with a minimum of 3/4 inches on the handle bar stem. The stinger system attaches to the bike in just two minutes and the seat can then be attached and detached from the stinger in 15 seconds. If you buy additional stinger assemblies the seat can be attached to multiple bikes. The iBert Safe-T seat is made in the U.S.A. with safety and quality as the main objectives. While the iBert Safe-T seat is designed to meet all 1625-00 standards, at this time ASTM 1625-00 is written for rear child carriers not front mounted seats. Overall a pretty good buy July 17, 2008 This is a great option considering the other available choices on the market for getting your kid on a bike with you. Mounting the seat up front yields outstanding control while on the bike, both in motion and standing still - great engineering. People are amazed when they see this in action. One drawback is hitting your knees on the seat, though. I chose to buy a new stem for my bike (about $15) that allowed me to raise the child seat an additional inch and it works great. Also, a tall child wearing a helmet might make the ride awkward.
Good only for shorter rides - handling+steering very good - straps not good July 16, 2008 We bought this bicycle seat as an addition to a rear-mounted seat so that our twins can both ride on my bike.
The good:
1. The bicycle handles really well. Even with 2 kids (one in a rear-mounted seat) , I can control and steer without a problem. 2. There no problems with the legs hitting the seat while pedaling. 3. The seat goes on and off fairly easy (I take it off every time after I ride) 4. The seat is comfortable for short rides (see below).
The bad
1. On longer rites, there is no way to sleep or relax as the seat provides no back rest. 2. The straps are not very good - adjusting takes longer than necessary and there is never a perfect fit. 3. Although there is no problem with the legs, my daughter's head is mainy times on my chest (using a fairly large mountain bike). This provides some kind of "back rest" but may be annoying on longer rides. 4. The clearance between the seat and the bike seat is a little small- this is only a problem when you don't ride, e.g. stand at a stoplight, but is manageable.
Conclusion: We are very happy with our purchase as it allows us to easily take 2 kids on the bike (together with the CoPilot Taxi) - but there is still room for improvement. Also, some problems may depend on the type of bike and rider.
May cost you more then expected July 14, 2008 Because her older sister is riding a bike, we thought this would be good for our 2 year old so the whole family could go on rides together. We were not able to install this on any of our bikes as there was not enough room on the stem below the handlebar. My husband took his bike to the shop and purchased a stem extension and since the shop also sold this seat, they installed the extension and the seat. So this doubled the price of the seat. It also raised his handlebar, but since he is tall it's ok.
Our child fits in the seat easily, but the shoulder straps are too far apart so we tied them together in the back to keep them secured. She loves riding in this seat. She does get a little possesive of the handlebar so my husband has to remind her than he has to hold on and she is not allowed to touch the shifting mechanism.
In terms of riding, he has found that he can pedal almost normally without bumping the seat, but stopping is a challenge because he can't hop off the seat to the front, he learned to find large rock or curb to stop by and rest his foot on it to dismount. Placing your child in the seat will increase the weight on the front of your bike, so be aware of that when breaking or turning. It could be dangerous for less experienced riders or when riding in crowded places.
Love, love, love it!! July 14, 2008 I have a friend who is from Germany and she mentioned that the baby seats are usually in the front - I thought it was a great idea. I researched them and chose this seat based on my research. It was super-easy to install and my 1 year old son LOVES it!! He feels like he's part of the action. The stability is great and he seems very comfortable even for long rides. I'm able to wear a backpack with essentials, something that would be hard to do with a rear seat. One item of note is that it did not fit the bike I had intended to put it on - but we live near the beach in Florida so we have no shortage of bikes in our garage. I just used one of the other bikes that had a longer neck from the frame to the handlebars. I would highly reccommend this product!
Make sure it fits you July 14, 2008 If you're thinking about buying this kid's seat, you should make sure that it fits you. In particular, it needs to (A) fit your bike and (B) fit your body size. For (A), it won't work with drop handles, but can also be problematic for other bikes. The best bikes for this seat are those with handles that bow upwards a bit. Especially in light of the answer to (B), if you're riding a bike with low(ish) handlebars, this seat may not work for you. Turning to (B), if you're on the smaller side, this seat probably won't work (unless you have a bike that's good on dimension (A).) I'm 6' 3", so I could use the seat on our mountain bike because I can reach around the kid to get to the handles. But my wife, who's 5' 9", can't. It's too uncomfortable for her to reach around the kid to get to the bike handles. Since our other bike, that only fits me, has a rear seat, we're forced to return this seat to Amazon. So beware about sizing (unless you like to pay return fees) and try it out ahead of time if you can.
