Wonderfully entertaining October 8, 2008 I immediately fell in love with this in the store. It looked so interesting and I loved that it had multiple functions. For the past two months we have been using it as a "soother" in our four month old's crib. She is transfixed by it and squeals with delight when I turn it on, so it is more stimulating than soothing. I can't imagine my daughter falling asleep to something she finds so fascinating and exciting. I am also looking forward to letting her play with the other toys on the base when she is able to sit up unassisted. The music is catchy and cute and the discs seem sturdy. The only con is that the motor whirs a bit louder than I would like. My baby doesn't mind and my husband doesn't notice, so perhaps I am just overly sensitive. Overall, an awesome toy that I can see holding my daughter's interest for at least a year, maybe two, which is pretty long lived for a baby toy.
Great toy for Newborns July 20, 2008 We purchased this after researching lots of kaleidoscope like baby toys with lights and/or music. We thought this one would be interesting because it had the base that would be good when I child got older.
Our child was 6 weeks old when we bought it and he loves it. It keeps him entertained for about 15 minutes. Long enough for me to fix some lunch, or do things around the house. Our child is always enthralled with it when it first turns on. He smiles and "coooes" at it and overall enjoys it.
The toy comes with four different disks that act sort of as a CD player. Two songs are fast and two songs are slow. The disks rotate at variable speeds in circles while music is being played. In addition the kaleidoscope attaches to a base that has a whole other set of toys. Eventually as he gets older, he will probably enjoy playing with this.
The negatives are as follows. Our child will not fall asleep with it at all. He is 100% entertained, and highly stimulated, but so far at two months there is no way he would fall asleep with it. Great for stimulation, horrible for putting to sleep. In addition, two of the disks that came along with it can only go at the fast setting, and for some reason has a little problem now and again with the slow setting.
Overall we are very happy with this toy and it gets a lot of use.
Fun, unusual toy for babies of all ages! May 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am surprised there are no reviews for this toy yet, my 8 month old ADORES it. It is very unusual, well designed, and hard to describe! The toy comes with 4 musical "disks", two play soft lullaby musical and two play more updeat tunes. There are also many other features around the base of the toy that would appeal to babies of different ages- levers, knobs, mirrors, squeakers, spinners, lights, balls, etc.
My son heads straight for the toy as soon as he sees it. He uses it in many different ways- he likes to bang the plastic balls together, turn the music on and off with the spinning level, play with the beads, flip the toy over and inspect the inner workings, and also use it as a prop to stand with. It is versitale enough that he seems to continue to find new ways to play with it as he gets older.
For a younger baby the toy can be mounted to a crib and used as a soother, we did not purchase it until he was 5 months old so we never used it this way. It would be a really good buy for parents of a new baby, would definitley get quite a bit of use out of it over the years.
My only concerns have been that he likes to reach in and "stop" the disks while they are spinning and I am worried that might burn out the motor but so far no signs at all of this happening.
