 Broken Item times 2 July 17, 2008
I bought this item thinking that it would be a great idea except that when I received it in the mail the screen was malfunctioning. So I took the item and returned it for a replacement only to have the same problem again. So back to Amazon, this time for a refund.

because it never leaves my baby's side! I'm a first time mom and this is a must-have for all parents. It helps you time and monitor your baby's feedings and diaper changes. (those are the only 2 timers i use on this). This is a must have for you hospital bag, too! Also, the night light feature is great for those middle of the night feedings. You don't have to turn the light on to help your baby latch back on if they mistakenly unlatch.
My husband first thought this was a waste of money, but he is a believer. He even tells his expecting friends this is the best invention because there is no way your going to remember what time you last fed or changed your baby, especially at night when your barely awake.
Now that my daughter is 2 months old, I'm still using it, but now to understand her eating and sleeping patterns. I'm trying to get her to sleep through the night. I'm using the techniques in No Cry Sleep Solution.
I only gave this 4 stars for 2 reasons:
1. I wish the timer could be set in 15 min intervals, rather than 30 min intervals. When your breastfeeding, your most likely doing 15 mins on each breast.
2. I wish the belt clip was more sturdy and secure. When I'm walking around in NYC, I wish I could clip it onto my diaper bag. Instead it ends up getting burried in my diaper bag and I need to fish it out whenever I want to see what time it is.

This item is fantastic. I got one for myself and my sister for her new baby. I am about to get another one for my friend's baby shower. A unique gift idea for parents-to-be.
Why is this gadget so great? Because it takes the time calculations out of keeping track of your baby's needs. You don't need to add hours up in your head or off a paper. You just easily look to this device to know how long "itzbeen" in hours & minutes since you took care of a specific baby's needs. When you are sleep deprived with a newborn, this gadget really helps keep a simple picture.
The ITZBEEN will tell you how long since your last diaper change and feeding. How long baby has been sleeping. The last icon is a "wild" card. We used it to keep track of my painkillers post C-section.
Only thing I don't care for is the automatic red blinking light if you let baby's diaper time go beyond 3.5 hours, which may happen during the night sleeps.
If you use this gadget as it is made to be used, it will help you out.

So, you've got a new baby on your hands and have no idea what's going on. This is a gadget worth having during this initial time. The pictures online don't make it clear that it's hand-held sized, and that it comes with a helpful belt clip. These two things make it easy to keep with you, or clip to something nearby.
While you're sleep deprived you may not realize it's been longer than you think since you last fed or changed the baby. With this it's no longer a mystery. Just when you cannot believe the baby needs to be fed AGAIN, the time will tell you it's probably been longer than you think. That and the sleep button will help you in the middle of the night when you see the baby's sleeping longer than your sleep-deprived brain wants to believe.
So during the first couple of months this little gadget will definitely come in handy. And the $25 will seem cheap compared to retaining your sanity. Get one, it's worth it.
Will you use it forever? No, but then that's true of a whole bunch of the baby stuff you've got. Do someone a favor and pass it along when you're done with it.

We initially only used this product for the first few days. We found that it was great for keeping track of feedings and diaper changes but it was hard to keep track of and cumbersome to keep on bring with you as you go from different rooms in the apartment. We breast fed for 8 months and fed on demand. We learned how to tell if he was hungry. We learned to determine when he needed a diaper change - the diaper would feel different, look heavier and sometimes all we needed to know was that we would get a whiff that isnt so pleasant. We found it easier to just read baby's cues rather than counting the hours between meals and diaper changes and trying to keep him on a schedule. This may be better for parents who practice that philosophy. We decided to follow the Dr Sears approach of attachment parenting. Rather than using a gadget to keep us on a schedule or keep track of time, we grew into our parental roles and are better for it. You dont need this gadget. Dont worry, you'll figure all this out yourself.
