Great for stopping the kids basketballs November 1, 2008 Just bought the product. Very easy to use and works well for our purpose - stopping our children size basketball (we live on a hill). Has enough spring tension to do this well. I am using on the grassy hill behind the hoop, but plan to drill a hole in the middle of the driveway and cover both the grass and driveway.
Easy to unroll - adult will need to retract as you have to make sure it is straight when retracting.
One very minor item is that when not in use, would like to have had the cover plugs on the ground tubes to be better -- they are a little inconvenient to use when flush with the ground (they should be more like corks.
Not perfect, but it has worked well for us September 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There were a number of negative reviews on this product, but I couldn't find anything else that met our needs so I decided to give it a try. All in all it has been effective for what we needed it to do which was to prevent our two young girls from going beyond our driveway and for keeping play balls in the yard.
Pros:
Great color. Visible for us, the kids and other people so they know our kids are out playing.
Easy to set up. You insert two tubes at either end of the drive for the gate to fit into. Took all of 5 minutes with a hammer. Easy.
Quick. The gate goes easily into the tubes and sets up in 45 seconds.
Effective. If you mount it low to the ground (not sure how the other reviewer set it up so that balls would roll under it. this isn't really possible) it will keep your kids in your driveway.
Cons:
It doesn't always completely retract back into the tube. If you spend more time fiddling with it you can get it to fully retract, but who has time for that? I just retract it as far as it easily goes and then roll up the rest around the unit. Not great, but it works.
It is also not a beefy set up. Kids can't lean on it. Your kids could break it if they run into it hard with their bike, and it is low enough that a ball with any bounce can go over it. But again, it depends on what you need.
For the price it did what we needed it to do this summer.
There's a better product out there November 1, 2007 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
I became frustrated researching this product. It has so many low ratings and the photos of it do suggest that it's flimsy! I was determined to find something similar but with quality construction. We have a short, sloped driveway so I couldn't take any chances on things getting past the fence! To my delight I found the kidcatcher. It uses tension at the bottom and top of the fence to catch both kids and balls! I liken the construction to that of a volleyball fence. Very durable product. I would highly recommend it since it's made better and costs about the same!
Disappointed! August 27, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this driveway guard and do agree it's a good idea. The main reason for my purchase was so that I would not have to chase balls down our driveway (our house is set up high). I found that smaller balls will simply roll underneath the net. Larger balls have a 50/50 chance of being caught by the net. All in all, this was certainly not worth the $$. i am very disappointed.
Not great for the money May 9, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
For almost $100 with shipping I would have thought the quality would have been better. I use mine to catch balls at the end of the driveway so I don't have to run down the street after them, and it does do that for the most part. It's hard to get it low enough on the ground that it catches the smaller balls such as tennis and base balls. Also you have to be careful re-rolling it so it doesn't get all bunched up and uneven, mine already has a hole in it. Tons of people in my neighborhood have stopped and asked me about it since they were considering buying one and I did not reccommend it for these reasons
