Love these! November 2, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was given this type of nipple (except they were rubber instead of silicone) from the hosptial when I had my son, and although I mostly breastfed, he easily switched back and forth to these for supplemental feedings or to drink pumped breastmilk. I've used these exclusively (the clear silicone ones now) since stopping breastfeeding and he has always loved them. Their shape is the same as the shape of a human nipple while nursing, so I believe that is why latching on and accepting these nipples is so easy. And to address other people's concerns about not being able to get milk out, this happened to me every now and then too, but I have found that massaging the nipple to make sure the venting hole on top is opened and working properly makes all the difference. My son sucked on a new nipple for 15 minutes until I finally realized he wasn't getting anything, and all I had to do was squeeze and massage around the vent hole for a couple seconds and instantly a rush of air bubbles came in through the hole--problem solved. (I think maybe after washing them sometimes the sides of the tiny hole stick together or something, or like someone else stated, the vent hole was not quite punched all the way thru during manufacturing). Another reason these are great (and why I use them) is that they'll fit inside any standard size bottle nipple ring, so you can go out and buy any standard size bottle you want and then just switch out the nipple. I prefer this to using drop-in liners because I don't like how much trash those liners create.
I know what the problem was December 10, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We use these nipples for our daughters bottles and love them. We got a new pack of them from the store and noticed that our daugther was having a difficault time getting anything and the nipple was collapsing. The air vent hole didn't get cut all the way though. We solved the problem buy sticking a needle through the air system hole on the side to open it and they have worked just great ever since.
parents beware August 28, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My nephew who is a week old had a terrible time with the Nuk Orthodontic nipples in the stage 1 slow flow nipple. He latched onto the nipple just fine but after 5 to 15 mins of constant sucking, my nephew couldnt get any formula at all. We changed out the nipple on the bottle and he downed the formula immediately. Nana and I threw out these nipples, they didnt work at all for him! Maybe other parents or aunts will have better luck with this product than we did.
