Caused constipation here too August 4, 2008 My baby never had a problem with constipation until we started this product. She went 4 days, 2 consecutive times, without pooping. When I stopped it she went back to her normal self ~24 hours after. I threw out the remainder of the can.
Sugar + maltodextrin vs. lactose May 31, 2008
Contrary to what other posters have written, there IS a difference between sugar in this formula and other formulas. Most other formulas contain lactose. True, they're both sugars, but lactose is what's found in breast milk, is a more complex sugar, and generally takes longer for the body to break down (a generally good thing). We've switched to Earth's Best Organic, which contains only lactose.

My almost 6-month old baby girl has been on several formulas from Regular Enfamil, to Nutrimigen, to Soy, to Enfamil AR (thickened with rice starch for reflux) and even though the Enfamil AR helped her spit up tremendously, I had a plan to switch her to Organic at the 6 month mark, since I was worried about all of the constipation reviews. All over Latin America and South America, when babies have colic, tummy aches, reflux, constipation, etc., they give them chamomille tea (manzanilla or camomila), I bought an organic chamonille tea and every time she has a little problem, I give her an ounce or two in between meals, about once or twice a day, and problem solved. I have noticed with this Organic formula that she does have different vowel movements, she's been through 2-25oz. cans already, and the bowel movements are still a lot more frequent (from once or twice a day to every time she eats!), and the bm is a lot darker and I feel that her tummy bothers her at times, but I am allowing for her body to get used to digesting this different formula, while giving her gripe water or chamomile tea, and it immediately relieves her symptoms. Her spit up and mild reflux is actually 75-80% less frequent than on ANY other formula she has been on! Recommended!
Dilute a little - it is great product May 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dilute the product with a little extra water (half or a whole ounce per 6oz bottle) and it will end or minimize the constipation issue. We are an organic family and this product is the only option that is affordable. We use nursery water (bottled) to prevent rash and just dilute it with a bit of extra water. Your kid will love it and you will be able to feed them without the hormones that are found in the cow's milk used in other formulas.
Check you local Sam's Club!!! and definitely buy Organic for babies/toddlers March 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Love this formula. Have also used Earth's Best Organic Soy with great success. I live in St. Louis and discovered the Similac Organic 30.8 oz cans for $19.87 at one Sam's, but not available at all Sam's. Have used this successfully for 4 months after exclusive breastfeeding for 6. Also used this on my first child with success. As far as the constipation issue, it's usually the switch that causes constipation or the extra iron in the milk (feel free to Google "milk formula constipation" to read from the experts). There is nothing in an Organic milk formula that would cause more constipation than regular formula.....it's more likely that the switch itself is the cause. As far as the extra cost goes, come on...it's a developing brain in a new life that you are impacting. Corn syrup (found in most formula) is typically made from geneticallhy altered corn and highly processed with sulfuric acid; the oils used are processed with hexane. And while I'm on my hippie soap box, it is known the food dyes and preservatives contribute to ADD in children, so why does Gerber include it in it's powdered Liquilyte (comparable to Pedialyte) and Tylenold uses red dye in its infant/children's cherry flavored oral formula? So, you use these products when your children are already physically compromised....is it necessary to include dyes and stick more chemicals in their systems? Do you think my ill 10 month old cares about what color the tylenol is? Check it out....too many parents just blindly shove anyting down their kids throats, not because they are not excellent, caring parents, but because there is a sense of "trust" with regard to major manufacturers. Sounds like most parents writing these reviews have done their research - be sure to do yours, too! :) Thanks for taking the time to read this! Here's is some good info on ingredients in formula (not promoting this product, just providing a source of info... http://www.babyorganic.com/cart.php?page=why_buy_organic )
