These ARE our nighttime diapers August 20, 2008 I bought a 5-pack of these diapers before my daughter was born, as well as some other cloth diaper solutions. We tried to put her in them before she was 10 pounds (born at 6.5lbs), and found they leaked horribly. Disappointed, I washed them and put them away for a few weeks. Once she reached 10 pounds, these diapers magically fit her properly! They do create that funny bubble-butt effect that you get with all cloth diapers - It helps a little with balance sitting up and I find it kind of endearing. We now own 15 of these plus a couple of other AIOs. We use them exclusively and I do a diaper wash every other day.
The plasticy outer layer definitely prevents soak-through. She sleeps a full 9 hours at night and wakes up happy and comfortable in these, and her bedsheets are dry. My husband is very happy to use these, and so is my mother! (My husband was on board initially, but not so much my mom...)
I made sure to wash these at least once for better absorbancy when they were new before I put the baby in them. I wash these with clear & free laundry soap, (but NOT baby laundry soap) for better stain removal, and I use a scoop of Oxi Clean. When drying them in the dryer, I use the timed-dry setting for 40-45 minutes. The dryness sensor on my dryer cannot tell how long to dry these for and they come out damp.
returned August 13, 2008 I ordered a few of these on rec of a friend. she must never have tried bumgenius or others. these were so bad i returned the rest of the ones i ordered. heavy and felt wet at first pee. not a good product. read my full review at themommablog.info
Not worth it even for the great price August 2, 2008 I'm sorry to report that I do not like these diapers at all. When I first ventured into the world of cloth diapers, I was appalled at how expensive they can be so I was delighted to find Kushies since they are such a reasonable price. However, I have found them to be more trouble than they are worth. I had many leaking issues with our girls; if I tried to make them as tight as possible to prevent leaking, they left marks on the girls; they got worn out within several months and started to tear at the seams; they are very bulky, etc.
I also tried a cheaper brand called Mother-Ease and I would recommend those if you're trying to not spend too much money, but also don't want to have leaking issues. But if you are lucky enough, try to find some of the really good brands second-hand/used. I just found 8 Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers with 8 Hemp liners for only $5 DOLLARS at a yard sale!!! What a steal?!? And they are AWESOME! I can see why they are so expensive brand new because they seem to work great and they have long life and they are not bulky at all - they fit just like a disposable diaper!
Sorry Kushies!!!
Easy to use, but I'm diasappointed with early wear-and-tear July 20, 2008 I have just switched to using cloth diapers for my 9 month old, and started with about 20 Kushies brand diapers. Although I'm finding the diapers quite easy to use (especially with a disposable liner, which was the only way I could get my husband on board with the cloth diapering idea, and which makes dealing with a soiled diaper MUCH, much easier) I am surprised to find that the cover material is starting to fray and tear after just a few launderings. I've followed the manufacturer's instructions for washings, and am alternating between some line-drying and low-heat dryer drying. The material seems to tear easily near the stitching along the velcro tabs, and at the top of the waist. Also, my daughter has already figured out how to pull the velcro tabs open, so I think we'll soon be switching to the Blue Penguin SposoEasy brand, which have snaps and a sturdier material on the cover.
In general, cloth diapering is a lot easier than I thought. If you are thinking about trying it, give it a go-- but do read more product reviews that I did before you invest in the diapers.
Very bulky diaper May 21, 2008 This diaper is so bulky that most of my one year old's pants do not fit over them. They also seem to make her walk funny. I was sold on the great price and good reviews, but I feel like I wasted money and now I still have to go and buy the more expensive diapers. On a positive note, they do hold a lot of wetness and seem to dry faster in the dryer than other AIO's.
