Not bad for a baby that keeps ripping them off! July 18, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My 9-month-old daughter began using the orto brand patches that her doctor had for sale. He told us the basic ones available at drugstores (NexCare & Coverlet) had a strong adhesive that would irritate her skin. The orto's worked for about a week until she figured out how to rip them off because they were so 'gentle' that they didn't really stick that well on her face. I even tried paper tape and cloth tape with these patches so I wouldn't have to submit her to the irritation from the 'other' patches. Well nothing worked. She kept ripping all my contraptions off! I drove all over town and found the NexCare Jr. patches and gave them a try.
I can't tell you how happy I am that these stick so well! Once they're on she pretty much leaves her eye alone now. She did try to rip them off a couple of times but they stick so well she quickly learned ripping them off meant hurting herself. The only drawback to these is that because they stick well it's tricky to get them off gently since she is tossing her head back and forth the whole time I'm trying to remove them. I think it's my daughter that makes the removal difficult, not the adhesive itself! She has no irritation problems and almost no adhesive left behind. I also like that they are not colorful because I think this may have actually contributed to her wanting to rip them off when she'd see herself in a mirror.
0 stars would be a better rating from me July 31, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Of course it depends on the child but for my five year old son the Nexcare patches were definitely not the best. The good news is that they do stick on very well, which is nice if you have an active child. The bad news is that they irritated my son's skin. I tried them myself and was only able to wear one for about 15 minutes. They left my skin itchy and red.
The Coverlet brand works better for us but we actually prefer the Ortopads, which are available online. Well worth a search to find them. If you are choosing between Nexcare and Coverlet, however, choose the latter. If you need something that sticks like glue and your child doesn't have sensitive skin try Nexcare but keep in mind that a lot of children seem to have a sensitivity to them.
Not as great as expected.... March 1, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We bought these after a suggestion from a friend who's daughter also had worn an eye patch. We were using the COVERLET brand but they were making the skin around his eye red and irritated. So we bought these at wal-mart to see if they would help and they made it worse and actually tore the skin and made a scab by his eye. Our pediatric opthamologist suggested the ORTOPADS. Plus now we don't have to place stickers on his patches, since they come in fun designs.
Now we're patchin' November 27, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My four year old daughter had cataract surgery as a baby so she has had to patch since. I think Nexcare is much better for day to day use as it is lighter and allows her eye to breath better. The other popular brand is good, but the adhesive is so tacky it hurt her when we took the patch off. The skin around her eye was red, plus alot of eyebrows came out with it. We have switched to Nexcare and there are wayless tears!
Nice but could be better... September 26, 2005 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I started out using the coverlet brand for my 4yr old who is the size of a 2yr old. They stuck really well but the junior size is not available in any store near us so I went to search online and found these Nexcare pads and decided to try them out. They do fit my daughter (ideal for 2yrs and under) and they do stay on for the most part; however, the coverlets stick MUCH better and I also found a new brand called ORTOPAD that is really cool with cool designs and sticks a little better than the Nexcare but still not as well as the Coverlets but is for sure nicer and in my opinion, a better deal for the price. The ortopad's come in boxes of 50 vrs 20 and have a varity of styles to choose from. Hope this helps someone.
