Best Allergy Medicine May 21, 2008 I love Children's Claritin. My son has seasonal allergies. Benadryl never worked for him, but Claritin has been consistent in treating his symptoms every time. He loves the chewable tablets - but they are so hard to find. It's nice to know he can have this cure his miserable symptoms without making him tired!
Claritin has milk derivatives in it November 24, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My son is very allergic to dairy and soy. Our allergist suggested giving him Claritin when he had a reaction (usually hives). We found that claritin made it worse while benadryl was ok. After contacting the company and researching the ingredients I found that it had lactose in it.
For the rest of the world, it's probably fine but if you have dairy allergies it may not be the best choice.

I do not like medicating my child but during allergy and cold season, I do not like her being miserable either. Claritin doesn't work for me, and for my daughter, it only works for 12 hours. I feel bad about this because after 12 hours the sniffling, and itchiness of throat comes back. Benadryl acts quickly but I can only use that at night. And not until the 24 hours is up for the Claritin. I am taking her to the pediatrician to see what they can suggest for good allergy relief. I have read up on medications and I do feel that these two meds, benadryl and claritin are low key meds, as in no adverse side affects or anything that causes alarm.
