Radian 65 April 18, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was nervous about buying a car seat sight unseen, but we like the Radian65 very much. It is easy for my 2.5 year-old to get in & out of and it makes her feel like a big girl not to be in such a bulky seat. (We passed her Roundabout down to our baby after he outgrew his infant seat.) Three things to know/consider: 1) The crotch strap is pretty far back and you will have to dig it out from under your little one almost every time. 2) My husband was pulling it out of our trunk and it fell out of its folded position, smashing his fingers pretty badly. I don't think it'll be a problem now that we know to watch it. 3) There isn't much side padding on the seat, so there's not really a place for a child to rest her head if she falls asleep. Other than these relatively minor issues, I would recommend the Radian for purchase.
This is a real good car seat. April 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought the Sunshine Kids Radian 80 last year for our oldest son. We really liked that one. We decided to get the Radian 65 this time around for our second son to save a little money. We have two more kids that will be growing into these two car seats. Yes, they are heavy, but it's not the end of the world. I am 8 months pregnant and just had to move both of the SunShine Kids car seats by myself into my mother's car. It was fine, not a big deal. The straps are real nice, they don't twist. Both of my boys, ages 5 and 4 can completely strap themselves in and get themselves out, which is very much needed. I feel like I am offering my kids the most safety I can with these car seats, for a very long time. I think it is super important to keep my kids (any kids for that matter) in a five point harness for as long as possible.
Nice seat with plenty of room for my child April 4, 2008 We purchased this seat last Septemeber for our 3 year old son. He is tall and skinny and was about to outgrow his Britax Roundabout (which we absolutely loved). He was getting too tall for his old seat so we were on the hunt for a new seat that would accommodate him for awhile longer in a harness. We wanted to keep him as safe as possible. We wanted a narrow seat even though we don't have any more children (at this time). When we have company (that just includes 2 adults) we like to be able to travel in one vehicle instead of taking two. With this seat, we are able to do that. Even though this seat is narrow, my son has plenty of room. He's not cramped in any fashion and seems to like the seat quite well. I personally like the lower profile as opposed to others like his Roundabout was. He is able to climb into the seat all by himself which is nice... My only complaint is the harness adjuster is difficult to tighten. I got VERY used to how the Roundabout worked and the Radian works in a much different way. You have to pull with little tugs as opposed to one pull. I REALLY REALLY wish it was tightened like the old Roundabout. Then this would be the GREATEST SEAT IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!! Regardless, we all are pleased with this seat.
Easier to install than expected February 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was intimidated by some other reviews regarding installation, but found that rear-facing installation using LATCH was simple in my Mazda3. I was a bit surprised by the seat's weight (although descriptions are accurate, it was hard for me to imagine the weight before actually experiencing it). Due to the weight, I don't think we'll really lug this seat around or move it from car to car. We did choose this seat largely due to it's foldability for traveling and we will take it on flights, but it is heavy. Our child is still a baby (only 6 months) so I'll be interested to see how the seat holds up over time. Right now, I'm very pleased.
Perfect car seat for me February 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been extremely pleased with this car seat. I love the fact that it does not take up half my back seat. The huge car seats are a big pet peeve of mine. Everyone that sees it says "Oh, it's so slim!" Yet my daughter (15 months) is still very comfortable in it, with plenty of room to grow in both directions too. I got the 65 instead of the 80; I don't really see using a full size car seat past 65 pounds. I had to completely take it off and wash it once, which is never fun or super convenient with a car seat, but really wasn't too bad. It washed up very nicely and looked like new again. Others have complained about the weight for travel which I personally don't get. I would rather carry 26 pounds in a nice neat rectangle instead of 20 pounds in a big bulky thing any day. Plus you can order the carry case, or backpack straps for it. Neither my husband nor I would have any issue with carrying 26 pounds on our backs through an airport. My child is 22 pounds now and I pick her up and carry her all the time! You will have a hard time finding this car seat in a store, as most of the big stores have mostly Graco, Britax, etc. But I am so happy I found out about this car seat through Amazon and took a chance, as it is SO much better than any I saw at the stores. Several of my friends have now purchased this seat for their kid(s) as a result of seeing my seat, or they have wished that they did!
